About

Hello there! My name is Drew, and I am fascinated by cities and how urban planning shapes our daily lives. My specific interests lie in transportation—especially passenger rail and walkable neighborhoods—as well as increasing density to create better and more sustainable communities.

I love exploring new cities and learn from their unique designs, imagining how we can make urban spaces better for everyone. This site is my space to share thoughts, ideas, and experiences related to urban planning and beyond.

Why Urbanism

Growing up in a small suburb of Omaha, Nebraska, I rarely considered what made cities work. Walkable neighborhoods, reliable transit, and dense, vibrant communities seemed distant and unattainable. There weren’t options to walk for groceries, grab a bite to eat, or even ride a bus. It wasn't until I began visiting larger cities that I saw what was possible.

My passion for urban planning began when I experienced cities such as Chicago and Seattle, where living car-free was not just possible but practical. Seeing how these cities prioritize public transit, walkability, and density sparked my interest. It inspired me to explore questions like, 'What cities can you live car-free in?' and 'Which cities have the best transit systems in the U.S.?'

I’ve since realized how many cities across the United States struggle with these fundamentals. Public transit, walkability, and density result in thriving and sustainable urban spaces. I aim to understand how we can improve these areas to build a better future for everyone. Though still early in my journey, I'm passionate about creating cities that put people first.
